The creator of the popular Arma 2 mod, DayZ, is back with a new take on the survival game Icarus. The coop and solo player survival game developed by Dean Hall’s RocketWerkz launches on November 20, 2021, but is getting a huge beta testing period before launch. Here is what we know about the Icarus beta, how to get beta keys, and the beta dates.

How to get a Icarus Beta Key

To get yourself an Icarus Beta Key, simply preorder the game on Steam. As it stands, it is the only reliable way to get a key. There could be potential Twitch Drops somewhere down the line, as we have seen recently with the Back 4 Blood Beta. But as of right now, there sadly isn’t anything confirmed just yet. The only way you can get an Icarus Beta key outside of preordering is by getting lucky with giveaways on Rainmaker and Woovit. Those of you lucky enough to grab a beta key this way will get sent a code the day before the first beta weekend – August 19. If you preordered the game, you should find an Icarus beta option in your Steam Library.

Icarus Beta Dates and Times

RocketWerkz is doing something different with its Icarus Beta. The game is getting six different beta weekends, with gamers able to try out a variety of content each time. Each beta weekend will officially kick off every Friday at 5 PM PT, lasting until 10 PM Sunday PT. This means that those on BST can play the beta beginning at 00:00 on Saturday until 06:00 on Monday. For those observing Central European Time, the events start at 01:00 CEST on Saturday, concluding at 07:00 on Monday. The beta weekends are as follows.

  1. Forest: 28-29 August
  2. Storms: 11-12 September
  3. Arctic: 25-26 September
  4. Desert: 9-10 October
  5. Missions: 23-24 October
  6. Community: 6-7 November

Beta Content

As mentioned, the Icarus beta is scheduled across six weeks of beta weekends. Every beta weekend will be focused around a new phase of content to test out while giving players a chance to try out character progression. The first four missions will test out different biomes that you can encounter in the world of Icarus.

The first beta weekend will have storms turned off. In the final game, storms force you to return to your orbital station lest you get caught out and die, losing your progress. You will get to enjoy the forest biome, which is the most earth-like in the game. The second beta weekend is when you will experience storms and the more hostile side of Icarus. As the weeks go on, you can try out more difficult biomes, such as the arctic and desert biomes.

With the game’s four environments introduced in the initial beta weekends, the final two betas will stress test the faction system. The faction system is a mechanic that ties in with Icarus lore and humanity’s attempt to establish the ‘second earth’.

The final beta weekend, scheduled two weeks before launch, will feature special missions curated by the developers. There is a promise of prizes and other community events, but nothing is entirely locked in just yet. Keep an eye on the Icarus news page for future RocketWerkz updates in the weeks ahead. Hopefully, we’ll see you on Icarus in the not-too-distant future.
