Blizzard Entertainment made some evolutionary steps from World of Warcraft Vanilla, changing raid sizes and deepening the difficulty. With the return of TBC Classic, players get to experience it all over again. Although, the game is notorious for its attunement process, requiring long quest chains to be completed, dungeon visits, and looting items from other raids. Karazhan is no different, spanning players through the Caverns of Time, Netherstorm, and Deadwind Pass. Anyone who wants to raid in TBC will have to go through the Karazhan Attunement process as part of their first. Here is a Karazhan attunement guide detailing the steps and details of the quests getting there. For those wanting a quick summary, we have one at the bottom of the article with a recommended step by step process.

Karazhan Attunement QoL Tips

Karazhan is the first TBC Classic raid that players will want to set foot in. The raid is a ten-player instance designed to grant some decent gear but nothing too groundbreaking to bridge the prebis and T4 BIS gap. Furthermore, Karazhan is the most cleared raid in TBC, with it being a great source of getting gear throughout the expansion for new characters and players.

Although, Karazhan is the instance with one of the longest and most epic tales to become attuned with the raid. The attunement process technically begins at 66 and is a part of your levelling experience if you wish to make it so. Becoming attenuated with Karazhan requires unlocking so many other parts of the game first. Here is how to get attuned with Karazhan and other necessary attunements in the Karazhan attunement guide.

Attuning to the Caverns of Time

At level 66, players can begin unlocking the attunement process for the Black Morass. The early quests involve going to the entrance of the Caverns of Time, picking up the quest To the Master’s Lair. Picking up this quest allows you to gain access to the Caverns of Time  Instances, which becomes extremely important for attuning yourself to Karazhan, Hyjal and more.

Once when you get the Master’s Lair quest, speak with Andormu. You’ll begin to explore what is in the Caverns of Time as you follow the Custodian. Upon following the member of the Bronze Dragonflight,  you will then gain your first dungeon quest for the Caverns, Old Hillsbrad back at Andormu. The Old Hillsbrad quest will then get you to go into the instance, speak with a  member of the Bronze Dragonflight, who will then tell you to use demolition packs at the slave quarters in Durnholde. Upon completing the quest, speak to Thrall within the dungeon and get the next quest to escape Durnholde, aka complete the dungeon normally.

After completing the dungeon, you’ll then gain access to the Black Morass, one of the important dungeons for getting parts of the Karazhan key. Also, Medivh is in the Black Morass, and he is the NPC who forges the Restored Apprentice Key, which is an item needed to become attuned to Karazhan. We recommend leaving the Black Morass for last, as it ties in beautifully with the Master’s Touch, coming in during another quest chain below. You can see the recommended order in the summary section at the bottom of the Karazhan attunement guide.

Arcatraz Attunement Guide

The next important part of the Attunement is unlocking the Acratraz, the floating prison instance in Netherstorm. The quest chain to get into the Arcatraz begins at level 67 with the Assisting the Consortium quest, found in Area 52 in Netherstorm. Players will naturally stumble upon this quest while levelling, which gets you to do quests around Area 52.

After completing some Area 52 quests, you’ll get a quest called Request for Assistance, which leads to the Eco-Dome. An NPC named Gahurji is the next point of interest, giving you a quest named Rightful Repossession, a simple fetch quest. After that, you’ll get Audience with the Prince, taking you to Stormspire. From there, you’ll get the Triangulation chain. After completing that questline, you’ll get the Special Delivery to Shattarath, which grants the quest, How to Break into the Arcatraz.

Forging the Arcatraz Key

To gain entrance to the Arcatraz, you must first go to the Botanica and the Mechanar and collect the two halves of the Arcatraz key. The bottom half of the key drops from Pathaleon the Calculator in the Mechanar. On the other hand, the Warp Splinter boss in the Botanica drops the second piece of the key. Please note, you’ll need to be level 70 and have flying unlocked, and form a party with four other level 70s with flying to complete the dungeons.

After acquiring both times, you can head back to A’dal in Shattarath to forge the Arcatraz key. Also, A’dal will give you another quest, the Harbinger of Doom, but it isn’t necessary to complete it as part of the TBC Attunement Guide. We recommend waiting to do the Arcatraz until you have the Second and Third Fragment Quest revealed later in the Karazhan Attunement Guide

How to Get Attuned to Karazhan

Now that you have unlocked most of the entry-level end game content, it is time to get attuned with Karazhan itself. At level 68, you can head to Deadwind Pass and find Archmage Alturas in front of Karazhan, which he will give you two quests, Arcane Disturbance and Restless Activity. Both quests take place around Karazhan itself, taking you to the hills and the bodies of water surrounding Karazhan and its crypts. After completing both quests, you’ll get Contact from Dalaran, leading you to Khadgar, and then the quest, Entry into Kharazhan.

Shadow Labs

The Entry into Kharazhan quest requires you to unlock the Shadow Labrinth dungeon. To do so, you must first complete the Sethekk Halls and loot the Shadow Labs key from Talon King Ikiss. Once you get into the Shadowlabs, you have to kill the final boss, Murmur, to gain you access to a container at the back of the room. The container spawns a Guardian, which drops the first key fragment. Pick up the fragment and return it to Khadgar to hand the quest in.

The Second and Third Fragments

The Second and Third Fragments involves two more dungeons, the Arcatraz and the Steamvaults. The Steamvaults is the easiest to complete, as it requires no attunement process to get inside. Like with the Shadow Labs, the second key fragment is in another container located behind the first boss, Hydromancer Thespia. Once again, you’ll need to kill the guardian before looting the second key fragment. Exact locations can be found via Wowhead.

The third key fragment comes from the Arctraz, which has an attunement process detailed above. Players will need to fight their way to a room full of Voidwalkers past Zereketh. The Arcane Container is located in that room and will once again spawn another Guardian.  Once you have all three keys, you can return to Khadgar to collect the Master’s Touch.

The Master’s Touch

The Master’s Touch is the phase of the attunement process where you forge the key to enter Karazhan. The Master’s Touch requires speaking to Medivh at the end of the Black Morass, which is unlocked in the Caverns of Time attunement. After handing in the Master’s Touch, you can go back to Khadgar, which rewards you with the master’s key, allowing you entrance into the Kharazan raid. After that, there are a few more quests, but they are not relevant to the Karazhan attunement guide. Congratulations, you are now attuned with Karazhan!

This concludes the Karazhan attunement guide. This is the major attunement process of Phase 1 of WoW Classic TBC, meaning you can chill out and enjoy the rest of the content in TBC’s first major content cycle. Although, there’s still plenty of content coming in future phases, with lengthy attunement processes for Black Temple, Serpent Shirnce Cavern and more. On a final note, the attuenemt for Karazhan never disappears throughout TBC, and is one the attunements every character has to go through until Cataclysm.
