NetEase and 24 Entertainment have brought us Naraka: Bladepoint, a battle royale game with a focus on melee combat, flashy parkour and grappling hooks. We do like playing it, but we also think it could ease up on the aggressive monetization. We’ve spent a lot of time getting to know the roster of the game, and we think we’ve worked out which characters are the ones that have the best shot at victory. We thought we’d share our intense combat research with you. Without further commotion, here is our Naraka: Bladepoint Character Tier List.

  • Yoto Hime
  • Viper Ning
  • Temulch
  • Matari
  • Tianhai
  • Valda Cui
  • Tarka Ji
  • Kurumi

Yoto Hime

Naraka Bladepoint yotohime

With some of the best offensive abilities in the entire game, Yoto Hime is particularly good at chasing down foes and beating them up. The guest star from Onmyoji is a powerful assassin, though her attacks do require some practice at first. This is because some of them have quite specific timings that you’ll have to learn to master to be as effective as possible. We think she’s probably the best.

Viper Ning

Naraka Bladepoint viper

A character that is basically the Ryu (Street Fighter) or Kazuya (Tekken 7) of Naraka: Bladepoint, in that she’s the one in all the pictures, she’s powerful and she’s quite easy to learn. Viper has a knockback attack and AoE stun move which makes her frustrating to fight against but very fun to play. We find that she rarely has to run away when fighting multiple opponents at the same time, which in our experience of Naraka, you’ll do often. Obviously with those skills she’s a powerful warrior and is deserving of the second spot on our Naraka: Bladepoint character tier list.

Temulch

Naraka Bladepoint temulch

With his Wisp Wards and his sandstorm, Temulch can be tricky to fight against. He can output damage quickly and at long range, which makes him good at dispatching foes that are trying to make a run for it. We recommend you give him a Greatsword so that he can keep the pressure on within his Zephyr Prison, though it’s important to note that the move won’t affect other people playing Temulch.

Matari

Naraka Bladepoint matari

Matari is the master of deciding exactly when she’s in or out of combat. It’s hard to force her into a fight if she doesn’t want to be there. One of her abilities lets her go invisible, while the other lets her snap back to where she was moments before. Give her a quick weapon and let her put the pressure on, knowing that she can escape should things go badly anyway.

Tianhai

Naraka Bladepoint tianhai

In a game full of high-speed attackers and scouts that zip around the screen, Tianhai is fairly unique. His abilities absorb damage, counter-attack and healing while he also chips away at his opponents’ health bars. Also he can become a giant and that is pretty rad. He’s not the best, because attacks, juggles and stuns in Naraka: Bladepoint are sort of the entire game, but he’s by no means the worst.

Valda Cui

Valda is an area-controller that uses her mastery of water to trap her enemies and stop them from being able to escape battles. She also throws magical water bombs that do an okay amount of AoE damage, but are generally less effective in a 1-on-1 fight. More scary is one of her Nether Nightmare attack upgrades, which binds foes to the spot after hitting then with a massive spear made of water. Valda Cui would be higher up on this tier list, but she’s most effective in team modes and isn’t great at dealing much damage by herself. Still, consider her if you’re playing with your friends!

Tarka Ji

Naraka Bladepoint tarka

Competing with Tianhai for ‘most defensive hero in the roster’ is Tarka Ji, who is all about counter attacks and absorbing damage to reflect it back in the form of a massive fire blast. Tarka is about as hard to hurt as Tianhai, but his ultimate requires a lot more work for a special move that is just less useful. That lands him lower in our list, but not in our hearts, because giant fireballs are always going to be really-really cool.

Kurumi

Naraka Bladepoint kurumi

Kurumi is a great healer, but her lack of offensive skills put her firmly at the bottom of our Naraka: Bladepoint character tier list. She’s not a bad character by any means — frankly none of them are, with the right weapons and loot — but she still struggles to be an effective fighter in solo matches because she is effectively a support character. It’s a shame because Kurumi is useful, but if we were ranking every character’s effectiveness in every team composition well, we’d be here all day.
