The Developers of the upcoming medieval melee combat game, Chivalry 2, have announced that there will be yet another beta for the game. Publisher Tripwire and Developer Torn Banner Studios have announced its plans to let players in a Chivalry 2 Open beta, allowing players to test the game out mere days before its full launch.

Crossplay and Customization

The Chivalry 2 Open Beta will feature a few more mechanics that the Closed Beta Test did not. One that many players will rejoice over is the introduction of crossplay. PC, Xbox and PlayStation players will now be able to swing their swords, axes, maces and arrows at each other. However, the press release does not mention that Xbox Series X/S PlayStation 4 and 5, nor PC players can invite each other. Perhaps that is in the game but for now, the only parties formable are the ones with your own platform.

Furthermore, the Chivalry 2 Open Beta will finally introduce character customization. Players earn gold through playing the game, with them unlocking items as their accounts and preferred classes rank up. They can then spend the gold on those items to show their skill and experience, or just to look cool.

Chivalry 2 Gameplay

As for the gameplay itself, the Open Beta features dual servers, allowing players to battle 1v1 to determine the better master of the European Martial Arts. For those who prefer the team-oriented nature of the game, there are more maps and game modes. One of those is the new The Slaughter of Coxwell. The map takes place in a village, with the aim of the game burning the village down, killing opposing soldiers, and stealing the loot. One team must stop them from doing this, with the other achieving those goals.

The Battle of Darkforest is another on the list of team objective modes. Agathian forces lie in wait, ready to ambush the Mason army that marches forth to kill the Duke of Fogbern Keep. Destroy the barricade, push the convoy, capture and hold the gatehouse, and kill the Duke.

For those who never got to experience the Closed Beta, you can experience the content shown in the CBT. The Siege of Ruudhelm returns, with Agathian forces assaulting a Mason stronghold defended by the Mason heir. Push the siege towers, capture and hold the gatehouse, burn the tents, push the siege ramps, capture and hold the courtyard, and take down the heir to achieve victory. Moreso, the armies of the Mason Order and Agathian Knights meet in an evenly matched open field of battle in The Battle for Wardengalde. For those looking for a hectic melee, Tournament Grounds is back. The medieval tourney themed map is filled with gimmicks, props and traps to trigger as teams do battle on a jousting field.

How to access the Chivalry 2 Open Beta

Since the Crossplay Open Beta is open, players from all platforms can access it. The beta is available for preload as of May 26. Players on PlayStation can access the game from the store, as do Xbox players, whereas PC players can find the Open Beta on the Epic Games Store. Those on the Playstation do not need a PS Plus account to play although, Xbox Gamers need  Gold status to play.

The Open Beta goes live on May 27, 2021, at 11:00 am (EDT) and ending on June 1 at 11:00 am (EDT). Unfortunately, this will be the last time players can access and test the game before Chivalry 2’s release date on June 8.
