Danganronpa V3 is the third mainline entry in Kazutaka Kodaka’s murder-mystery franchise about Japanese teenagers that are forced into a ‘killing game’ by a sadistic robot bear called Monokuma. As the Hope’s Peak Academy story arc was completed in an animated series called Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School, this game takes place at a new school in a new time period. It also features a cast of characters mostly unrelated to the ones that came before.

We’ll tell you who the new Danganronpa V3 characters are, so you’ll know about your new classmates to take some of the stress off before you go and start your first day at the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles.

This article will explain who everybody is, but will do it’s best to not reveal any story twists. We’ll also not tell you about any character deaths. This should hopefully preserve some of the suspense and mystery should you actually want to play Danganronpa V3.

Danganronpa V3 characters (A-G)

MonokumaV3

Angie Yonaga

A young polynesian girl that talks about blood sacrifices a little too much. Angie is a ‘spiritual’ person — and by that we mean that she thinks she is the living vessel of the Island God Atua. She’s a bit odd, to say the least.

Gonta Gokuhara

Gonta claims he was raised by wolves. We usually wouldn’t believe him, but he might actually be able to commune with animals. He hates violence and just wants to protect the other students, to the point he will risk his own safety.

Danganronpa V3 characters (H-J)

Himiko Yumeno

A lazy, sleepy magician. She knows several parlour tricks and stage magic illusions, but won’t admit that she’s not really magic. She will often offer to do magical things and then back down and claim she doesn’t have enough MP. Tenko Chabashira has a crush on her.

Danganronpa V3 characters (K-M)

Kaede Akamatsu

One of Danganronpa V3’s two playable protagonist characters. Kaede is a cheerful and optimistic piano player. She’s desperate to end the ‘killing game’ as fast as possible, constantly telling the other students that “Once we get out, we’ll all be friends.”. She is also a natural leader, regularly encouraging the other students to work together against Monokuma and his many ‘children’.

Kaito Momota

Kaito is an astronaut-in-training that falsified records to get himself the job as a child, only to get to keep it when they realised he was incredibly smart and talented. He’s an over-the-top, funny person that wants to get away from the ‘killing game’ and finally go on a trip to space.

Kirumi Tojo

Tojo is a caregiver that does her best to look after all of the other students and make sure all their chores are done on time. She is the secret Prime Minister of Japan, with an actor serving as her face in public appearances. Kirumi is a serious person that lives by the mantra of “duty before self”.

Kokichi Oma

Kokichi is a prankster with a childish personality. He claims to be the leader of a group with over 10,000 members, but really there are only 11 of them. Oma is more clever than he lets on and he will often use his intelligence to deceive others. He claims to actually enjoy the ‘killing game’, but no one knows if he is serious about that. Kokichi’s untrustworthiness often puts him on bad terms with the other trapped students.

Korekiyo Shinguji / Kiyo

Kiyo has seen the world and genuinely loves human nature. He is calm and intelligent, though people tend to mistrust him because he hides half of his face at all times. He agrees that his behaviour is odd, and is the first to admit that it makes him look like a would-be murderer.

K1-B0

A robot with a well mannered artificial intelligence inside of it. He is nicknamed Keebo by the students. Keebo struggles to understand Kokichi’s pranks and the pair do not get along because of that. K1-B0 also sometimes hears a voice that compels him to do things, which is quite creepy.

Maki Harukawa

Maki tends to hide her emotions because of her generally cynical personality. She was raised in an orphanage, but does not like children. Harukawa is close friends with Shuichi and Kaito.

Makoto Naegi

Makoto returns from Danganronpa and Danganronpa 2. In flashbacks set before the story of Danganronpa V3, we find out that he became the Headmaster of the Hope’s Peak Academy. These flashbacks also imply that Naegi may be working with Monokuma. He was also one of the minds behind The Gofer Project, which created the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles colony so that the human race could still have a prosperous future after meteorite collisions destroyed the planet Earth.

Miu Iruma

Miu is a brilliant inventor that often has no time for other people or their thoughts. Iruma is a narcissist that will often throw out completely successful inventions for not meeting her impossibly high standards. She pretends to be perverted, dirty-mouthed and rude but that facade falls away when people insult her.

Monodam

A green bear that Monokuma considers his son. Monodam rarely speaks. This is supposedly because his siblings like to bully him.

Monokid

A blue bear that is another of Monokuma’s sons. He has a rock star-ish personality and plays guitar.

Monokuma

Monokuma returns from Danganronpa and Danganronpa 2 to be the host of another ‘killing game’ called The Killing School Semester. It’s unclear how he keeps surviving, or even who or what is controlling him this time. In the time between games, he has had several ‘children’ called The Monokubs.

Monophanie

A pink bear that is Monokuma’s only daughter. She has a gentle personality and tends to carry flowers.

Monosuke

A yellow bear that likes to talk a lot. He’s the only one with stripes. Like most of the other bears he is also considered a son by Monokuma.

Monotaro

Yet another of Monokuma’s sons. This time he’s a red bear. He has a scarf and is the leader. It’s all a bit tokusatsu, isn’t it?

Danganronpa V3 characters (N-Z)

MonokumaV3 2

Rantaro Amami

Rantaro is often relaxed about his situation, and he seems to have some amnesia. He’s not afraid of the evil bear robots and will speak to them coldly and plainly to find out whatever answers he wants.

Ryoma Hoshi

A pessimistic tennis player. He was on death row before coming to the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles. Ryoma used his skills to kill an entire mafia organization and earned the nickname “Tennis Killer”. He also has a very deep voice despite his short stature.

Shuichi Saihara

The other playable main character in Danganronpa V3. Shuichi is a polite boy that seems to second guess himself a lot due to a lack of self-confidence. As an apprentice to the police department he helped his uncle solve several violent murders. Shuichi is close friends with Kaede Akamatsu, Kaito Momota and Maki Harukawa. Kaede has his back, often encouraging him and helping him with his self-esteem.

Tenko Chabashira

Tenko is a martial artist who has invented a new style called “Neo Aikido” with the help of her master. It is different from traditional Aikido as it is an aggressive style that strikes first and strikes hard. She’s a loud, outspoken girl that hates boys and considers them all to be liars.

Tsumugi Shirogane

Tsumugi is a hobby nerd (otaku) that dresses plainly. She regularly throws anime quotes in as part of general conversation. In her free time she makes cosplays of fictional characters —mostly for other people, but not always. Shirogane is an obsessive fan of previous ‘killing games’ and has even been known to compare herself to Junko Enoshima from the original Danganronpa.

There are a lot of Danganronpa games, and we think that if you enjoyed our article that you’ll probably want to try them for yourself. The Danganronpa series is available on most platforms, but we think the best versions are on Steam or on the Nintendo Switch, where there’s a trilogy collection.
