G2 Esports has sadly announced that the roster is benching long-time AWPer Kenny “kennyS” Schrub from the roster. The decision comes after the dramatic fall in the G2 esports roster at several high profile events.

The decision to bench Kennys will have no doubt been a difficult one. KennyS is one of the best AWPers ever to touch CS:GO. The superstar is one of the few players ever to lift a major trophy. He achieved this feat back in  2015 on EnVyUS. Furthermore, he has been with G2 esports for over four years.

With that said, KennyS is heading to the bench, with Audric “JACKZ” Jug heading back into the roster. Nikola “NiKo” Kovač is taking over the role of the AWPing.

G2 Esports seems to have gone downhill in the most recent half of the online era. The team took to drastic measures in late 2020, with the signing of NiKo. The move meant that JACKZ’s immediate future was the bench.

While the roster’s first few moments looked great, it appeared there was something still missing. Like with the old FaZe Clan, it seemed if NiKo wasn’t popping off, no one was. The recent IEM Katowice 2021 event was a sign of this. G2 Esports got upset off the get-go by Team Spirit, then getting eliminated from Evil Geniuses in the second round of the Lower Bracket. It became clear the new G2 roster was leading nowhere; G2 needs a new look. Whether the new configuration performs any better is yet to be unknown.

As for KennyS, this is not the end of his esports career. The player took to Twitter to discuss his future in the game. He has alluded to a new signing on the way, due to be revealed very soon, meaning we will not lose another big name to the ever-growing Valorant.

G2 esports first game back is in the ESL Pro League Season 13  Group B. The squad will face off against Ninjas in Pyjamas in the second game of the day.
