Blocking, Parrying, Riposte, and Countering
Blocking and parrying are your ways of withstanding a blow in Chivalry 2. Blocking is a technique performed by those with a form of Shield and a One-handed weapon, that takes the brunt of the blow. On the other hand, parrying is the term used for blocking a blow using your weapon.
When a player successfully blocks or parrys an attack, they get to perform a faster light attack to counter strike their opponent. The technique is referred to as a riposte in Chivalry 2, allowing the wielder to block and attack while costing stamina. The importance of this move grants the user initiative, which is the term used for getting the upper hand in combat. Be aware of holding a parry as it results in stamina drain, eventually leading to the opposing player disarming the defender. As for Shield users, the shield will eventually break after taking so many hits. Therefore, it is best to get used to parrying and beating your opponents before either happens.
Alternatively, players can aim to perform a counter instead of a riposte. A counter is a high-risk, high-reward move, which aims to emulate a parry, but rewards a free attack that is more likely to hit than a riposte. However, failing to get the counter correctly opens the player up to a free hit, requiring skill and precision.

Just before a 1v1, understand your weapon range, as trying to gain the initiative in a neutral fight could lead to your character missing their swing, opening up your character to receive an immediate blow and losing initiative for the fight.

Feinting / Morphs

While it is certainly possible to fight multiple enemies at once and win, it is more than likely going to lead to death. Alternatively, pay attention if you have pushed further forward than the rest of your team, as that could lead to players getting picked off.
Archers are the class that relies on positioning the most. Simply put, an Archer with a great aim at a favourable position can reap so much from their spot. Despite this, an Archer in a terrible spot will have a horde of melee charging them for a free kill.
The best Chivalry 2 tip for Archers are to learn the maps. Find out where you need to stand on both sides of the map, learn where the melee sights take place, and where enemy archers typically stand. That way, you can pick up off opponents with precision and effectiveness every single time.
Furthermore, some classes special benefit from charged attacks. A Charged attack is simply a special move that a class can make while running at full speed. Knights can perform ground tackles, with Men at arms charging with spears in front and Vanguards diving headfirst into hell.
For Vanguard, pulling off their dived charge move means putting out so much damage onto players. However, missing that shot can mean getting overwhelmed by multiple enemies. The same goes for the man at arms and the knight who want to charge a target too. Simply put, use your eyes before deciding whether to charge attack straight into an enemy line or not. In some instances, it will work incredibly well. In others, you’ll have just lost a life for your team’s reinforcements.
Best Beginner Chivalry 2 Classes
Chivalry 2 has four different classes, each with three different subclasses. Players can unlock more subclasses for each class as they level them up simply by playing the game as that class. However, some are more complicated than others, with some requiring great mechanical skill to excel on or a strategic mind.

The Man at Arms
The Man at Arms is easily the best choice for any beginner looking to get into Chivalry 2. The reason why is because they do the damage needed to win games, and the poleman spec has the range needed not to feel as pressured in battle. Furthermore, the entire class comes with first aid bandages, meaning you can keep going for longer, ultimately meaning the MaA is not as punishing to play as other classes. Also, the starting MaA spec comes with a Spike Trap, so they can begin to think about some level of strategy as they learn the game. Overall, the class is easily the best pick up and play for any new player.
If the playstyle of the Man at Arms isn’t to your tastes, how about try a Knight out. Knights have the most HP and Armor in the game, meaning they can last longer in fights. Furthermore, they have a decent two-handed weapon, which can perform just as well as any Vanguard weapon.
Once you have enough time on the Officer, you’ll unlock the Guardian specialization, which adds even more security with a more active AOE heal banner and a shield. Both Knight specs are perfectly good at playing the game for actual fights or playing the objective-based gamemodes.
Almost everything in Chivalry 2 can get launched at enemies, whether a primary weapon, secondary weapon, actual throwing weapon, or map props. In many instances, a throwing weapon is a difference that can make or break an enemy charge. Timing them as they are about to hit you will cancel their attack, allowing you to swing in and grab a free kill. Alternatively, you can launch it at them earlier to get free damage and claim the initiative.
If you don’t have a throwing weapon, consider launching a secondary weapon. For example, if you are bout to fight a heavily armored knight, perhaps throw your spare axe at them to gain the initiative and then use your mace to counter their armor. Smart decision making can tip the balance in your favour.
If you find yourself in a difficult position, find something on the floor to throw. Props are normally scattered around the map, featuring rakes, brushes, even chickens. Alternatively, pick up someone’s weapon they dropped if you are surrounded by the fallen. It could potentially mean finding a dedicated throwing weapon for the moment.
