After countless cries for Apex Legends Crossplay, Respawn Entertainment finally delivered the feature at the end of 2020. The feature was announced way back in 2020, intended for Origin, Xbox One and PS4. Although, the Apex Legends Crossplay Beta dropped coinciding with the Steam Launch in October 2020. Now that the feature is out, it has since expanded to the latest generation consoles and the Nintendo Switch.

How does Apex Legends Crossplay work?

Apex Legends Crossplay is a feature that allows players from a variety of different platforms and consoles to connect and play with each other. By default, the Crossplay feature is enabled, meaning that players from every platform the game is currently enabled can play with each other.

Find your friend in the game’s add friend section to play with friends on a different platform. Click on the Friends tab and then press the Find Friend button. A new text box will pop up, allowing you to search for their name. Once entered, your friend can then accept the invitation to get placed in a crossplay Apex Legends lobby, where you can queue for LTMs and regular games of Apex Legends.

Furthermore, the crossplay feature for Apex Legends means that players can sign up for crossplay Clubs. Clubs allow players to make new friends from all corners of the digital world by signing up for like-minded Club niches. Players can create crossplay events, inviting players they would otherwise never meet without the feature.

However, it is worth noting that you need to be in a crossplay lobby on PC to get into crossplay servers. PC’s general skill gap is so much better than consoles that the matchmaker won’t put PC players deliberately in a favourable position.

How to crossplay Apex Legends

Apex Legends is on by default. But, if you want to find yourself playing with your console counterparts, or want a quick reminder, here is how to find it. The Apex Legends Crossplay settings are easily found. Go to the lobby screen and click on the cogwheel at the screen’s bottom-left hand. In like manner, go to settings, and scroll down until you see crossplay beta, which you can enable and disable.

Disabling the crossplay feature is ideal for those playing on the Consoles, particularly the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch has some of the lowest quality settings and framerates, meaning they are more than likely to struggle against players from every other platform or console.

Does Apex Legends have cross progression?

The short answer is no. Players who play the game on different consoles sadly cannot continue their main accounts progression. This is also one of the features that are wished for by the community alongside crossplay. However, it just isn’t the case as of yet. Perhaps one day in the future Respawn Entertainment will have something on this front, but for now, it is best of sticking to your preferred platform and playing Apex Legends crossplay with those friends who chose a different platform.

In the light of this, there is no doubt you’re a master of the crossplay lobbies. Go and explore the wider community of Apex Legends with glee, and maybe you’ll find that perfect duo partner somewhere you’ll never have expected.
