The Xbox gamescom 2021 stream didn’t have much info on upcoming big releases and didn’t show many new video games, so we were left wondering why we showed up for it at all. It’s a good thing first-party developer inXile brought the new expansion DLC for Wasteland 3 with them to save the day.

Cult of the Holy Detonation, will be released on October 8, 2021 and the studio has said it will be the final content update for the game before they work on their next project.

Roleplayers that purchase the new Wasteland 3 DLC will make their way through the nuclear post-apocalypse to the Cheyenne Mountain complex, where a nuclear explosion has been frozen in time. Crazy mutants have started to worship it, but obviously can’t really be trusted to have everyone else’s best interests at heart. With your squad, you’ll fight your way to the altar and decide what will happen to both the bomb and its surrounding area.

Cult of the Holy Detonation looks different to previous Wasteland 3 DLC packs, with more focus on tactical decision making than any of the Wasteland content that came before it.

inXile’s blog post on the pack explained that “Your squad of Rangers will be tested like never before in objective-based encounters that put a creative spin on the already deeply tactical turn-based combat. As they face overwhelming odds, the Rangers will need to shut down reactors, clear ventilation systems, and engage defensive countermeasures to stem an unending tide of dangerous mutants and machines within the dilapidated military bunker.”

Where should I buy Wasteland 3 and it’s DLC?

Cult of the Holy Detonation is quite a hefty content pack, adding new weaponry, stylish rust-punk armor and several new enemy types to Wasteland 3. It’s available for $6.99 by itself, or you can get it as part of the Expansion Pass for $19.99. If you do get the Expansion Pass, you’ll also get the first Wasteland 3 DLC content pack, The Battle of Steeltown.

You can get Wasteland 3 on Xbox, PlayStation or PC. As the game is on Xbox Game Pass, you can also take advantage of a generous 10% discount on Wasteland 3 content with an active Game Pass subscription.
