New Playstation 2 on the way

According to Indian news site,  Economic Times, there will be a new version of the Playstation 2 released in the near future.

Although details seem to be very sketchy the report suggest that the new model of the worlds best selling console will be ’slimmer, sleeker and more suave’ as well as ’no longer having an external power supply’

The console will be released at the same time in both the European and Indian markets at a price point similar to its current RRP in respective regions.  No news on a release in America or Japan but I would assume this will be announced shortly.

Hopefully images of the redesign wont be far off, but if it gets much slimer than the current PS2 it may be the first credit card sized console!

Not sure what Sony is playing at? Maybe trying to get back some of the money they lost on the PS3.

This is getting a bit like George Lucas re-releasing the Star Wars triologies again and again.

No news on a release in Japan? Wasn’t it out there before the last new year?
