A unique idea - What would Mario Bros. be like if four people were pushing for pole position in a fight to the finish? What would that be like online, with a level editor included, a collection of silly power-ups and weapons, a levelling-up system, a degree of luck and with a set of controls that doesn’t break a wrist? It’d be brilliant fun. It is brilliant fun.
Platform Racer 2 looks rubbish. That’s the one downfall here. It’s not a game-breaking rubbish, it’s just a "meh" kind of rubbish that has you looking for something else to play. But persevere. This is a game that Nintendo should have snapped up years ago, tarring it with the Mario brush and watching the money roll in.
The idea is one you’ll be more than familiar with. Navigate a course by running left/right, jumping, super jumping and grabbing power ups. The biggest addition here is that four other players are doing exactly the same, all of you racing for the finish line like your XP depended on it.
Winning a race will reward you with new clothes, heads and feet to customise your racer with. Win enough races and you’ll level up, providing you with points to increase your acceleration, speed or jumping power. It’s a real party game, a happy slappy platforming steamroller that’ll have you grinning like a loon as you shoot someone with a lazer gun just before they hit that finish line. Great stuff.
